Lucky Restaurant (Dinner Time) White Cut Chicken and Char Koey Teow

March 2014

Lucky Restaurant is a Coffee Shop Right in the Center of Butterworth Town,  Just Opposite the TM Building / OUB Bank / and Just beside a Budget Hotel,  Along Jalan Bagan Luar /  Butterworth Main Road.

for My first Food Blog Post,  I drop by here for dinner.  Parking is not too bad,  you can park behind the Budget Hotel.

What was open this fine Sat evening was a Kuih Stall,  Char Koey Teow,  Chicken Rice (White Steam Chicken Only,  Roasted Duck,  A "Thai"? fried rice,  Western Food,   I notice that a Loh Mee,  Curry Mee stall was close.

This Coffee Shop is not in a shop per se,  but in a roof over area beside a shop.  From its look been here for quite some time.

What caught our attention is the (Boiled) White Cut Chicken,  and that most of the patron was going for this. So a order of 4 Plates of Chicken Rice,  5 portions of chicken (mix parts which came up to around 1/2 a chicken I think) and one big fish ball soup, all this for RM22/-.  Also available here are bean sprouts, and lettuce, which we did not order.

Verdict:

1.  Pricing is reasonable, for the quality and quantity given  (Note, next table,  one portion of chicken, with one rice, n additional portion of small rice RM5/- ),     9 of 10 points

2. Quality,  Superb, smooth even the breast part, comparable with chicken thigh,  the soup was also superb,  the chili was hot, almost tabasco level of heat,   12 of 10 points

3.  Customization,  the owner was not willing to customise our order.  He has his reasons,  and frankly with the quality it really did not matter.    so not score here

Overall,  21 of 20 points, So we will be back,  look like its going to be one of our favourite place.

Note :  Better go early,  by the time we finish before 7.45pm,  half of the chicken was already gone.

I could not resist ordering a plate of Char Koey Teow,  done my particular way ie half cook egg and cockles.

Pricing :  RM 3.20 with egg,  I will call this ok,  however the prawns were pretty small,  7  of 10 points

Quality n Taste :  Ok,  I will call this Grade 2 Island Standard   6  of 10 points

Customisation :  10 of 10 points here,  The cook really listen to you.

Overall:  23 of 30 points,   Can do

So Why Butterworth?

Post 3

Every try getting in to or out of Bukit Mertajam Town?  even during non peak hours?  For those who have done so,  you would know why.  Jam here,  Jam There,  Bottle Neck here,  Bottle neck there.  Not really my choice in terms of Traffic.

Secondly there are much more choices for apartments in Butterworth,  better view, hopefully and Public Transport,  Basically the whole of Seberang Prai Transport, hub is Butterworth right at the Jetty, where they say Penang Sentral is going to be located.

Penang Sentral is where the Ferry to the Island is,  Train Station,  Bus Station (Local and Out Station),  The Hub is there,  all very mix shift, and unorganised that is till they build Penang Sentral.  Lets see when.

Butterworth is better organise,   More facilities, infra,  traffic still move

Buying a House is easy, Buying a Home is not

Post 2,

Why is this?

Penang Real Estate is saturated with many purchasers purchasing house (be it landed or non landed)  for investments,  many of them renting out fully furnish apartments.

This has cause prices in general to move up,  leaving affordable housing scare,  to the extend that many from the island moving over to the Mainland, where the whole vicious cycle start up again.

Even with step taken by the Federal and State Government,  Price will go up,  its the question of how much,  unless either price control is put in,  or by increasing the number of houses available on the market, @ suitable locations.

Frankly speaking I do not have much choice, even with a modest requirements

1.  affordably price,  instalment of around RM700 to RM800 per month, after a good size down payment
2. Locations,  Locations, Location within 500 meters
    a.  Banks
    b.  Market / Supermarket
    c.  School,   Primary Chinese, Secondary  Normal
d   Kopi Tiam n Food Courts
    e.  Some Form of Public Transport
    f. Extra Parking
3. Clean Apartment Complex
4. 800sq ft.

I would think with such modest criteria,  I would have no problems,  Big mistake!!

Starting my search some 3 years back,  concentration on the Island,  I found that affordable (to me that is)  apartment, will mean staying in Batu Ferringhi,  Relau,  Paya Tebung etc,  places really out of the way,  and that will be in 700 sqft apartment.  Any Close to town,  will be in sub 700sqft apartments,  super congested areas,  and mostly lease hold.  So my location of choice is shifted to mainland. (Lucky my place of work is on the mainland)

Note:  There is nothing wrong with a 700sqft apartment,  fact is lots of ppl stay in small places,  unfortunately the Malaysian Furniture Industry is fixated with bulky furniture's.

On the Main land,  I could only really look at  is Butterworth or Bukit Mertajam (places with reasonable apartments),  with the Shift to Kepala Batas,  Seberang Jaya, Bandar Perda, by some Government Departments, Butterworth is not that congested as yet,  (though accessing the only way out ie the Federal Route 1 & the PLUS highway can be a nightmare at times),  and basically Butterworth have the infra structure required that I would like to have.

Bukit Mertajam, well let say having stayed there before,  It not my town of choice,  especially with the traffic.

Introductions

Post 1,

This blog is created as a Diary,  to put in writing my experiences in purchasing an apartment, moving to Butterworth Town and exploring the town.

While there are some information on Butterworth in the web,  I find it lacking especially with day to day information,  so I will try to fill in the blanks from the perspective of a person staying here
